1 Corinthians 9:19-23 (New International Version)
19Though I am free and belong to no man, I make myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible. 20To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win the Jews. To those under the law I became like one under the law (though I myself am not under the law), so as to win those under the law. 21To those not having the law I became like one not having the law (though I am not free from God’s law but am under Christ’s law), so as to win those not having the law. 22To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all men so that by all possible means I might save some. 23I do all this for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings.
Here the apostle Paul is not saying that we are to be something we’re not, to be fake. Not at all. The interesting thing about this is that Paul was a Jew, was under the law, was a Roman citizen (not under the law), and self admittedly weak (2 Corinthians 12:9-10).
This passage is really about relating to the person where they are at. While introducing someone to our opportunity we should take a similar approach. Ask yourself where is this person? Are they struggling with health, finances, or time? What is their background? Are they sales people, teachers, or an engineer? What are their interests? Do they like sports, computers, or nature?
By finding a common ground between you and your prospect you are creating a comfortable setting. People listen to people they are comfortable with. Understanding where people are is the key to understanding their challenges. Who do you know in this world that could use more money, more time, better health, and pay less in taxes?
Find out where they are at. Be on their level. Offer solutions to their problems.

This is a very valuable way to walk. It is seeing with the heart and seeing that All have value. It keeps from judging or furthering separation when we look through a different set of eyes.
I was actually reading something last night in a business book that had the same concept. He referred to it as collecting IQ points. When we are honest with our shortcomings and are transparent enough to admit that we don’t know it all, we become like a comfy blanket to others. We are a safe haven where those who are confused can come and share their hearts.
I often find people tell me very personal things without even realizing it. They just feel the love of God coming through me and I am honored that I am out of the way enough for them to feel safe enough to share.
